This policy explains how Jason Charity (“I”, “me”, “my”) collects, uses, and protects personal data you provide through jasoncharity.co.uk. It is written to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who is the data controller?
I am the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can contact me at:
- Email: admin@jasoncharity.co.uk
- Post: Member Services, Doncaster Council, Civic Centre, Waterdale, Doncaster DN1 3BU
I have applied for registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a data controller. The registration number will be published here once issued.
What data I collect
I only collect personal data that you choose to provide:
- Contact form submissions: your name, email address, the subject you select, and the message you write.
- Email correspondence: if you email me directly, I receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
- Analytics data:aggregated, anonymous usage statistics (see “Cookies and analytics” below). This does not identify you.
Why I collect it and the legal basis
- To respond to your enquiry or casework request — legal basis: consent (you chose to contact me) and, where relevant, the performance of a task carried out in the public interest in my capacity as an elected councillor.
- To keep a record of constituent matters — legal basis: legitimate interests (effective representation) and public interest.
- To understand how the site is used — legal basis: legitimate interests, using privacy-friendly analytics that do not identify individuals.
How long I keep your data
Contact form and email correspondence is kept until the matter is resolved and for up to twelve months after that, unless a longer period is necessary (for example, where an ongoing casework matter, legal obligation, or council record-keeping requirement applies). After that it is deleted.
Who I share it with
I do not sell your data or share it for marketing. I use a small number of service providers to operate the site:
- Netlify, Inc. — hosts the website and processes contact form submissions. Submissions are transmitted to me by email and stored in a Netlify dashboard.
- Plausible Analytics — provides privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics. No personal data or IP addresses are stored.
- Email provider — used to send and receive correspondence with you.
I may also share data where I am legally required to (for example, in response to a lawful request from a regulator or court), or where it is necessary to pursue casework on your behalf with Doncaster Council, other public bodies, or service providers. Before doing so I will normally seek your consent.
International transfers
Some of my service providers (such as Netlify) may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by the UK’s international data transfer framework, standard contractual clauses, or an equivalent safeguard.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you;
- ask me to correct inaccurate data;
- ask me to erase your data (in some circumstances);
- ask me to restrict or object to my use of your data;
- ask me to transfer your data to another controller;
- withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis.
To exercise any of these rights, email admin@jasoncharity.co.uk. I will respond within one month.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Plausible Analytics is used to measure visits in aggregate and does not set cookies or store personal data. Netlify may set a short-lived cookie on the contact form for anti-spam protection. If that changes in future, this policy will be updated and a cookie consent banner will be added.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how I have handled your data, please email me first so I can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page shows when it was last reviewed.
